About the Library

The library of Nilai International School is located at Level 1 of the main administrative block. Our library aims to cultivate a love for reading and knowledge. It is also a place for research and homework.
The library facility provides a special space for performances as there is a mini stage at the corner of the library.
A carrel section is also provided for listening to AV items.
A computer zone is equipped with PCs for research and reading.
Library Mission
The library is the learning center and is an integral part of the subjects taught in class. It supports the learning, teaching and recreational activities of the school. Our mission is: Read, Learn and Discover
Library Objectives
To promote the love of reading, the joy of learning and engagement with the Arts, Sciences and Humanities.
To provide our school community with the best possible resources and services.
Operating Hours (school term) Monday to Friday: 8:00am to 4:30pm*
Operating Hours (school holidays) Monday to Friday: 8:30am to 3:30pm*
* Note: The library is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. It is opened throughout the lunch hour.
Collection

NIS Library uses the Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC). All the items are classified according to DDC.  You find these numbers on the labels of the library items. Our collection consists of books, magazines, audio-visual materials and electronic resources such as CD-ROMs.

The Library collection includes reference books and story books. Most of our books are in English.
1. Main Collection: Fiction and Non-Fiction
2. Reference Collection (For students: in-library use only). They are referred to as Red Spot collection)
3. Media Resources such as CD-ROM.
4. The English newspapers (e.g. NST and The Star) help you keep in touch with the local and global scene.
Please note that the Circulation Counter closes 30 minutes before closing time.
Services

Loan Services
Students are allowed to borrow two (2) books for a duration of Two (2) weeks with the option of renewal if the book has not been requested by another library user. Students will not be allowed to renew if the books are overdue.
To check out a book, go to the Circulation Counter with the book and Student ID card. The library staff will check the library. The due date is the last date stamped on the due date slip.
Reference books may not be borrowed by the students.
Students are responsible for any book borrowed. Students are not allowed to borrow books for other students.
Books are to be returned at the Circulation Counter.

Reference Service

Students may request for specific information search/bibliographic assistance to help them in their research.

Storytelling
In an effort to cultivate the love of reading by introducing young children to books and to make reading fun, storytelling sessions are conducted at the kids’ corner.
