2 years ago, I applied for a scholarship to Nilai International School, without knowing the wonders and adventures that were in store for me. After being called back for an interview and being accepted into the school, life began to change for me.
I’ve learnt many lessons here, one thing making me truly successful in this school was the conscious decision I made – to study and do well for me, and not because someone told me to.
The learning environment here is very conducive, allowing everyone their own space to learn and discover who they are.
I’ve done many great things with this school and had such great support from my teachers and friends alike, contributing to who I am as a person today.
I’ve had the opportunity to play the lead, Cinderella in my school play, join tons of flash mobs and performances with my music club, become the House Captain for Green House and leading them as the champions during sports day, slowly becoming one of the tops students in my class, having the opportunity to go on field trips and perform – and my personal favorite, being able to use the music room to write songs.
Currently, I am a singer-songwriter, musician and performer, all of which NIS greatly contributed to giving me the exposed and help that I needed. My teachers and friends even came all the way to support me at some of my shows which was truly exhilarating.
I did well in IGCSE too, with the guidance and assistance of my wonderful teachers, who put through with my endless questions and helping me while I was doing pass year papers. My teachers are some of the best friends I have ever made, and they truly are special, the dedication they have.
A couple of my friends and I formed this team called Ascendance, to get kids to excel in their studies while following their passions and succeeding while still in school, much like what me and my sister did. Yes, there were a couple of bumps on the road, but no journey is 100% smooth.
I hope you truly enjoy your time at NIS, much like I did.

“I would like to express my gratitude towards my teachers, my friends, the school staff, and the entire community in general for making my time at NIS a pleasant one. Without your support, I would have been unable to achieve as much as I have now. When I first joined NIS, I was welcomed with open arms by the teachers and students, who were interested in making my acquaintance. Such hospitality was quite rare to me, as I have not been in such a tight-knit community where everyone knows each other well. This has helped me to accept others more easily, regardless of who they are.
A notable aspect of the community that I have encountered in NIS is the cultural diversity, among both students and teachers, a number of which originate from or have lived in other countries. Being exposed to the different customs and traditions has broadened my view of the world and guided me to be more sensitive of others’ differences.
Aside from being able to succeed in my studies, I was also given plenty of opportunities to explore my skills and harness them to its potential. The wide range of co-curricular activities allows one to gain experience in a variety of skills. Everyone is given a chance to show what they are best at, be it an athletic or artistic talent. For example, I could perform in the 2015 school play Cinder-What?!, showing my acting and singing skills in front of many parents and students. This was an opportunity that I would remember vividly for years to come.
Overall, I have enjoyed not just an excellent education, but also a well-balanced student life and great company among friends and teachers. I hope my fellow schoolmates can similarly perform their best in every aspect, and as the school motto goes, “let [their] light shine”.
